This Month's Needs:

·         Kitchen Opportunities—breakfast, lunch and dinner opportunities available as a cook, line server, sanitation worker, dishwasher, dining attendant.

·         Pediatric Opportunities—children’s mentor, children’s reading group/library volunteer, children’s chapel assistant, after school tutor.

·         Women’s Dorm Opportunities—women’s mentor.

·         Administrative Opportunities—office volunteer, development office volunteer.

·         Maintenance Opportunities—general maintenance volunteer supervisor, window washer, adopt-a-block grounds pick up, vehicle maintenance, housekeeping, electrician, plumber, painter, lawn and landscape.

·         Medical Opportunities—dentists and doctors.

Anna's House Ambassador

We need ambassadors to take the message of Anna’s House and present the vision to their home church and friends, to help organize the care and keeping of foster families within their home church and to identify needs that will help keep the church involved in loving these families and their children.

Resource Room Volunteers:

 

  • washing, ironing and sorting donated clothing (weekly or monthly as needed)
  • welcome basket preparation
  • donation pick up & organization/distribution
  • volunteer coordinator or co coordinators needed

 

Small Fundraising Coordinator/co-coordinators

  • medium to small scale fundraising, including but not limited to the
  • following ideas:
    • Bake Sale, Craft Shows, silent auction, etc.

Large fundraising events with our board

  • coordinator
    • Golf Tournament
    • Larger Scale Live/Silent Auction

Mother's Helpers

Volunteers who are willing to serve foster moms who stay at home with household chores, occasionally bringing a meal to a new foster family with a newborn or infant or hospitalized foster placement, babysitting biological or foster children for doctors appointments, court hearings etc.

 

Hospital Volunteers

  • blanket delivery
  • baby cuddling (when cleared by OKDHS)
  • general ministry needs within this area vary from case to
  • case so it is difficult to be more specific
  • Most importantly, be a prayer partner!

Whiz Kids - Tutoring and Mentoring Children

This Month's Needs: 

·       Tutors:  two hour per week commitment through May. Training and background check required. Afternoon and Evening times available

 ·       Church Partnerships:  Suburban churches are needed to partner with inner-city churches in the community where the kids go to school.  Inner-City churches have been identified, the need is for the suburban church to partner and recruit volunteers that will go as a group to the inner-city site.

  ·       Office Help:  Help needed in the office to organize and level books

  ·      Day Camp:  Volunteers needed for two different day camps in May, Crystal Lake Shilo Camp.  Hours to volunteer are 9:00 to 3:00.

April and May Needs:

Transportation for May SKIL Graduation Breakfast

            From the students school to City Church and back to their school

Food baskets, just an idea of items you may consider including…

            Canned meats i.e. tuna, chicken, ham

            Box of crackers

            Mac and cheese

            Cheese crackers

            Peanut butter

            Loaf of bread

            Microwaveable meals (not frozen)

            Juice boxes

            Cookies

            Pop tarts

            Something fun

 

(a food basket may contain some or all of the above items…. It may be made up of items you feel are important.  This list is just something to follow.) 

Please make sure the items don’t have to be cooked using a stove or oven.

  • Donation prom dresses

 

  • Prom attire shopping to assist you in choosing appropriate prom dress.  SKIL provides $100.00 toward prom attire, but our youth often need transportation and someone to assist them).  Mentor could pick up SKIL youth, or youth could meet the mentor at the location.

 

  • Donation of shoes, and accessories for prom.  Or gift card.

 

  • Hair and nails – volunteer to do hair and nails or gift card.

 

  • Make up – volunteer to teach/assist youth in applying make up.

 

  • Items for a dorm room (male and female) – Early collection, youth will be graduating and leaving for college in the fall.  (Some of these items can be purchased at a fraction of retail through craigslist.org) 

 

  • Dustee’s / Claires etc. gift cards for accessories.

 

  • Restaurant gift cards – for prom night.

 

  • Prom goodie bags…  be as creative as you’d like

 

  • Easter goodie bags for SKIL youth (male and/or female)…Have fun with this one!  J 

 

And as always…we are in need of mentors and tutors.  – Ladies please, please, please get your men involved.  We are in desperate need of male mentors!

  • A church invitation and transportation

 

  • Invitation and transportation to your youth group activities

How You Can Help:  Destination Character involves an 8-hour training session. Mentor training is a 7-hour training session. Volunteers will need to obtain a DOC certification. Volunteering usually takes place at a local church.
