The Path of Blessing
John 13:17 NLT
“Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his
hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He now
showed the disciples the full extent of his love.” John 13:1 NLT
How did Jesus display His love to His disciples? “He
got up from the table, took off His robe, wrapped a towel around His
waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the
disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel he had around him.”
John 13:4-5
“After washing their feet, he
put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I
was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because
it is true. And since I, the Lord and Teacher have washed your feet,
you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to
follow. Do as I have done to you. How true it is that a servant is not
greater than the master. Nor are messengers more important than the one
who sends them. You know these things—now do them! That is the path of
blessing.” John 13:12-17 NLT.
With a distressed Spirit, Jesus
predicted his Betrayal. He was giving Judas an opportunity to humble
himself and turn from Satan’s enticement. Judas chose not to respond
and Satan entered into him. He left the room at Jesus’ command to carry
out his betrayal.
Jesus then told his disciples that it was time for
the Son of Man to enter into his glory and that God would receive glory
because of all that happened to him. It would happen very soon. He
called them dear children in verse 33, mentioning the brevity of the
moments he had with them before he left. He gave them what he called a
new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your
love for one another will prove to the world that you are my
disciples.” John 13:31-35
Jesus comforted his disciples in John 14 by telling them:
“Don’t
be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. There are many rooms in my
Father’s home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were
not so, I would tell you plainly. When everything is ready, I will come
and get you so that you will always be with me where I am. John 14:1-4
He continued teaching them with a promise: “If
you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he
will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. He is the
Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth….He lives with you now and later
will be in you. 15-17
Verse 20: “When I am raised
to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me,
and I am in you. Those who obey my commandments are the ones who love
me. And because they love me, my Father will love them, and I will love
them. And I will reveal myself to each one of them.” verse 23:
“All those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them and we will come to them and live with them.” Verse 31
“I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father.”
What is our ‘Path of Blessing?” It is the very same as Jesus’ path:
1-Showing others the extent of His love! How?
2-Listening to His Words and believing them.
3-Humbling ourselves as He did and recognizing ourselves as His servants.
Revive Ministries invites you to come to Metro Tech on February 9th to
listen to ministry leaders share their testimonies of their Path of
Blessing. The promises of Jesus above have all been experienced by
these servants and they will be a blessing to us.
