“A Day in Another's Shoes”
At 10am we met at Bridgeway Church and loaded the bus
We heard opening comments by Mayor Cornett’s office as well as Cynthia Huffmyer, President of Revive and Masie Bross, Director of Whiz Kids and Vice President of Revive
After we selected a pair of shoes and a brick which represented carrying another's burdens, we boarded the bus and visited:
-
The Juvenile Detention Center
-
City Rescue Mission
-
We also heard from the Prison Ministry
-
Then we walked across the street and visited the Refuge
-
Our next stop was Faith Works, where lunch was graciously provided by Charleston’s
-
After lunch, we visited Infant Crisis Center where we also heard from Anna’s House Foundation and met Anna while we enjoyed desert from Charleston's
-
Then we stopped by SKIL, a shelter for homeless teens
-
Next we boarded the bus and headed back to Bridgeway Church where a Whiz Kids tutoring session was in progress
-
Before we departed, we heard a closing by Kirk Humphries, former Mayor of Oklahoma City
-
As we departed the bus, each child from Whiz Kids handed us a copy of Tom Pace's book, The Mentor
What an experience it was to walk in the shoes of the hurting, the poor and the forgotten. Thank you for all of you who attended. We were so blessed to have 23 of you indicate that you will host a table at our Hearts & Hands Banquet February 11. What an incredible response to help Revive transform our community!
